By examining the biography of Amir Abbas Hoveyda, I reached the conclusion that our history must be reread and recalibrated, and that we are in need of a kind of historical revision and scrutiny. It is necessary to abandon preconceived hypotheses and categorical judgments. Truly knowing any individual requires reconsidering them anew through the Cartesian method. Descartes claimed that, in scientific inquiry, one must abandon and reject all prior assumptions and doubt everything except the doubting mind itself. Likewise, I believe that when assessing a person’s mentality and investigating their life, we should begin with the assumption that we know nothing significant or reliable about them. We must accept the possibility that what we have heard and learned about those before us was intended to mislead us, and that only a mind free from the sediment of the past is capable of bringing us closer to some part of the truth.
