Founded in 1253 by the French theologian Robert de Sorbon, the University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne is the oldest university in France and one of the oldest universities in Europe. Located in the heart of the Latin Quarter in the center of the French capital Paris, the university’s headquarters are established at the famous Place du Panthéon in the 5th arrondissement.
Since 1970, the University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne has been a French center of excellence with an outstanding international reputation. The university is specialized in teaching and research in three main academic areas: Law and Political Science, Economics and Management, and Humanities and Letters.
The university, known for its prominence in developing senior researchers and personnel, was able to establish a network of international partners of more than 400 institutions, as well as a faculty of more than 1,400 professors-researchers. Every year the university prepares more than 43,700 graduates to join careers as judges or lawyers in the public and private sectors.
The university awards degrees at the bachelor's, master's and doctoral levels, as well as numerous dual degrees and international diplomas that are aligned with the Bologna process.
