Lusail University Organizes the Fourth Edition of Sustainable Development Day in Collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change and Qatar Museums

On Monday, 17 November 2025, Lusail University hosted the fourth edition of Sustainable Development Day, with the distinguished participation of more than 200 female and male students from various academic programs. This year’s event was held under the theme “Sustainability Is a Shared Responsibility,” reaffirming the university’s commitment to supporting national sustainability efforts, enhancing environmental awareness among students, and empowering them to engage in initiatives that contribute to the achievement of Qatar National Vision 2030.
The activities and lectures focused on linking theoretical knowledge with practical application by discussing ways to integrate sustainability into daily life, the role of educational institutions in promoting environmental awareness, and highlighting leading national initiatives aimed at addressing climate change and protecting natural resources.
The day witnessed the inauguration of the Student Projects Exhibition, officially opened by His Excellency Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie, Minister of Environment and Climate Change. His Excellency toured the exhibition pavilions, where he reviewed students’ innovations in renewable energy, resource management, and environmental conservation. The students presented initiatives reflecting an advanced awareness of sustainability issues, contributing to the promotion of a culture of environmental innovation and enabling students to apply their theoretical knowledge to real-world projects that support the implementation of the National Environment and Climate Change Strategy.
On the sidelines of the event, a panel discussion titled “Sustainability as a Shared Responsibility: An Integrated Approach to Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals” was held in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change and Qatar Museums. The session was one of the key highlights of the day, addressing the concept of sustainability from a comprehensive perspective. It discussed the role of individuals in adopting environmentally friendly behaviors, the role of institutions in developing effective policies that protect the environment and support economic development pathways, and emphasized the importance of integration among various sectors as a fundamental pillar for building a balanced and sustainable future.
The panel discussion was moderated by Dr. Sawsan Al-Binzarti, Assistant Professor at Lusail University and event coordinator, who presented an inclusive vision of current environmental challenges and the necessity of strengthening the participation of all segments of society in shaping future solutions. In this context, Ms. Mona Askar Abdullah Al Emadi, Environmental Advisor at the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, delivered an intervention highlighting the ministry’s pivotal role in implementing national sustainability programs, particularly initiatives linked to the National Environment and Climate Change Strategy. She stressed the importance of collaborative efforts between the government sector and educational institutions as a cornerstone for the success of sustainability projects in the country.
Meanwhile, Mr. Faisal Abdullah Al Nuaimi, Director of the Antiquities Department at Qatar Museums, reviewed the institution’s experience in the sustainability of cultural heritage and its role in supporting sustainable development pathways. His presentation highlighted Qatar Museums’ efforts to preserve cultural heritage through approaches that combine modernity with cultural identity, showcasing pioneering projects for the protection of archaeological sites, the documentation of intangible heritage, and the use of modern technologies to ensure the sustainability of this heritage for future generations.
Sustainable Development Day also featured a series of awareness activities, student presentations, and environmental competitions that highlighted students’ enthusiasm and engagement. The participation reflected a growing awareness of environmental issues and a strong commitment to supporting sustainability principles.
The fourth edition concluded with the recognition of the best student projects and outstanding presentations, reflecting the university’s dedication to fostering creativity and encouraging initiatives that raise awareness and strengthen the values of community participation. The conclusion underscored the importance of continued cooperation between Lusail University and various state institutions in promoting a culture of sustainability and supporting efforts to implement the National Environment and Climate Change Strategy, in alignment with the aspirations of Qatar National Vision 2030. The event also highlighted the role of cultural heritage sustainability in preserving national identity and strengthening a sense of belonging, affirming that safeguarding cultural heritage is an integral part of building a sustainable society. The event served as a vibrant platform for ideas and aspirations, reinforcing the firm belief that sustainability is not an optional choice, but a shared responsibility that requires collective efforts to build a prosperous future for today’s generation and generations to come, while preserving national identity and cultural heritage.
