Student Abdulrahman Yasser Abu Zour, a third-year undergraduate in the Artificial Intelligence program at the College of Information Technology, Lusail University, achieved first place in the Artificial Intelligence and Internet of Things Hackathon in Sports. The competition was conducted at the national level in the State of Qatar under the support and sponsorship of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.
The final stage of the hackathon was hosted within the framework of Web Summit 2026, one of the most prominent global conferences dedicated to technology and innovation. Its integration within this internationally recognized platform substantially elevated the competition’s visibility and strategic importance. The event was organized in collaboration with leading technology-sector entities, including Qatar Tech, Qatar Innovation, and T-Mobile, thereby fostering a highly competitive and professionally structured environment.
Project submissions were evaluated by a distinguished multidisciplinary jury comprising representatives from the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, the Qatar Sports for All Federation, the 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum, Cisco Academy Qatar, Aspire Academy, and Studio 5. The winning project, G-TECH+, developed by Abdulrahman and his team, represents an advanced intelligent system integrating Artificial Intelligence and Internet of Things technologies. The system is specifically designed to enhance the safety and well-being of wheelchair users by proactively detecting and mitigating daily risks, including falls, heat stress, humidity-related complications, and cardiac rhythm irregularities. The platform generates real-time audio and visual alerts and transmits automated text notifications to predefined emergency contacts, incorporating geolocation data and detailed risk information.
