Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Lusail University: Sorbonne University-Doha Officially Begins Its Activities

His Excellency Dr. Ali bin Fetais Al Marri, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Lusail University, announced the official inauguration of Sorbonne University-Doha today, making it the first branch of the prestigious French university in the State of Qatar. In a statement to the Qatar News Agency (QNA), His Excellency said that Sorbonne University-Doha had begun accepting Qatari students last September, and the opening of its branch in Doha inside Lusail University came through a partnership between the two sides. He pointed out that the French Sorbonne University has a long and globally recognized history; therefore, its branch in Doha within the Lusail University campus will benefit the educational community in Qatar.

The remarks of Dr. Ali bin Fetais Al Marri came on the occasion of the Qatari-French panel discussion on French legal education organized by Sorbonne University-Doha in partnership with Sorbonne University-Paris. The session featured H.E. Dr. Ali bin Fetais Al Marri, H.E. Mr. Jean-Baptiste Faivre, Ambassador of the French Republic to the State, Ms. Agnès Roblot-Troizier, Dean of the Sorbonne Law School, and Mr. Thomas Perroud, Professor of Private Law and Director of Academic Affairs at Sorbonne University-Doha. The discussion covered topics in legal sciences, including criminal laws, contract law, corporate law, and arbitration.

In his speech, H.E. Dr. Ali bin Fetais Al Marri emphasized his continuous pursuit of the success of this unique experience in Qatar, noting his keenness to conclude a partnership agreement with one of the most prestigious international universities in teaching law in French by choosing Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University. He expressed his hope that Qatari youth would undertake this new experience in Doha, which will help them open up to the world by mastering legal sciences as well as the French language, contributing to achieving Qatar National Vision 2030. For his part, H.E. Mr. Jean-Baptiste Faivre, the French Ambassador, stated that this experience is exceptional and must be supported, considering it a new opportunity for further bilateral and strategic cooperation. Ms. Agnès Roblot-Troizier, Dean of the Sorbonne Law School, added that the academic framework of both universities is determined to move forward toward the success of this unique and exemplary agreement. Furthermore, Mr. Thomas Perroud confirmed the consistency of the educational system in Doha and Paris, where students study for 3 years to obtain a law degree, enabling them to pursue various professions such as law, judiciary, and diplomatic careers.
