Lusail University Organizes the Second Edition of Sustainable Development Day Exhibition

On Sunday, October 23, 2022, Lusail University organized the first edition of Sustainable Development Day, which saw the participation of more than 260 students in academic and promotional activities to raise awareness of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The event represented a unique opportunity for students to showcase their skills and creativity, highlighting widespread interest in sustainable development issues with a focus on key challenges through relevant posters, publications, and models. The students' participations were directly related to the environmental, economic, and social dimensions of sustainable development, emphasizing Qatar's efforts in achieving sustainability.

Following the success of last year's event, Lusail University organized the second edition of Sustainable Development Day on November 13, 2023. More than 200 students enrolled in the "Sustainable Development" course participated with projects and posters confirming Lusail University's direction toward establishing scientific, practical, and ethical awareness within the student community specifically and Qatari society in general. Lusail University was also honored to host a representative from the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change to emphasize the importance of the environmental dimension as an integral part of the sustainable development project, within the framework of the partnership between the Ministry and the university to support the state's direction toward achieving sustainability through Qatar National Vision 2030.

In his speech on this occasion, Professor Dr. Ramzi Naeem said: "Organizing Sustainable Development Day at Lusail University comes within the framework of the university's mission to provide knowledge production that contributes to sustainable development and enhances community service." Among the most important topics presented and discussed by the students were: Qatar's efforts to eliminate hunger, provide food security, ensure health for all, achieve equality among community members, and integrate people with special needs. Student projects focused on the importance of the environmental dimension and preserving ecosystems—marine and terrestrial—through nature reserves, the importance of treating wastewater, and extending infrastructure to preserve water resources. This was in addition to other topics that achieved great success, such as renewable energy and maintaining air quality to reduce global warming.

Qatar Sustainability Week is considered an annual appointment to support the sustainability vision in the state and involve relevant institutions and entities under one comprehensive umbrella, aiming to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals in Qatar. This event has played a significant role in increasing community awareness of the importance of practices toward achieving sustainable development goals since its launch in 2016.
