Lusail University achieved a stunning victory in the National Debate Championship, where the "Lusail 4" team, consisting of students Shaima Abu Talib, Omran Saleh, and Rawaa Al-Samawal, excelled. The team secured first place in terms of total scores and fourth place in terms of the number of wins among 24 participating teams in the championship held on Saturday, April 27, 2024. The team leader, student Shaima Abu Talib, also shined by winning the Best Speaker award in the championship, while student Omran Saleh secured seventh place in the individual speaker rankings.
This victory comes as a culmination of the continuous efforts made by the students and administration at Lusail University to strengthen the University's Debate Club, which served as a platform to develop students' skills and motivate them to participate in national events, providing appropriate training for club members in cooperation with specialized academies, in addition to the university administration's celebration of students participating in competitions.
Regarding this success, Shaima says: "My debating career began during my high school years, and after joining Lusail University in 2020, I led an initiative to establish a debate club at Lusail University to provide opportunities to participate in national events. The club was founded in 2021, and I was its president until 2023. I feel great pride in the successes the club achieved during my leadership."
Omran Saleh emphasizes the club's capabilities, saying: "During the past period, the club received different levels of training, the number of members doubled, and we were able, thanks to God, to participate in the Sixth International University Debating Championship held in Turkey in 2022. We also participated in the university's name in the Second Asian Debate Championship in the Sultanate of Oman in 2023, in addition to the Second Gulf Championship, where we won first place in the first qualifiers."
Sharing her opinion on the club's achievements, Rawaa Al-Samawal says: "We are committed to continuing to develop the club and achieving more successes in the future. The constant and continuous cooperation between the university administration and the club members always results in success and championships."
Furthermore, the Lusail University team participated in the Seventh International University Debating Championship, which was held in Doha at the end of May 2024.
