My Story and AI Competition

23/06/2025
Lusail University Library, in collaboration with the Qatari Publishers and Distributors Forum of the Department of Public Libraries at the Ministry of Culture, launched the "My Story and AI" competition on the occasion of World Book Day, which is celebrated on the twenty-third of April every year. The competition targets the literary works of university students in both Arabic and English categories.

On this occasion, Dr. Theresa Mohareb, Director of Lusail University Library and faculty member, stated that the competition aims to develop the cognitive and cultural skills of the university's male and female students, encouraging them to present literary works visually supported by artificial intelligence techniques, while emphasizing that the role of technology is limited to enhancing the visual aspect without affecting the essence of creative writing. This enhances the reading and writing experience and contributes to enriching their writing experiences on one hand, and keeping pace with technological development on the other. A large number of students participated, and the percentage of stories that passed the first stage of sorting reached approximately 37 stories, which underwent a stage of judging and auditing in terms of citation from AI programs to ensure that it is an original student creative work. Six positions were won in the final stage, three for the male student category and three for the female student category.

She also expressed her happiness with the cooperation with the Ministry of Culture in this project, the first of its kind for Qatari university students, and she hopes that this experience will serve as a launchpad for more cultural projects to promote book culture and disseminate knowledge, which is what academic and cultural libraries strive for.

Mr. Jassim Ahmed Al-Buainain, Director of the Qatari Publishers and Distributors Forum of the Ministry of Culture, explained that this competition aims to encourage literary creativity by writing short stories in an innovative way through the use of artificial intelligence in the design and production of images and drawings, noting that the names of the winners of the competition will be announced during the activities of the Doha International Book Fair in its thirty-fourth edition next May.

Al-Buainain added that the Forum seeks through the competition to create a competitive environment that stimulates innovation and enhances cognitive awareness of the culture of the State of Qatar, past and present, in line with the Forum's objectives concerned with activating the cultural movement, promoting the value of reading, and intensifying programs for introducing books.
